What types of art classes does ArtWorks offer for children?

The core of the class is drawing and painting, but we have printmaking, 3d and textiles facilities. The tuition is student-centred, and we can provide GCSE, A-level, and Scholarship support. As well as fuelling inspiration and skills for our younger students

Does ArtWorks provide any resources for students to use at home?

We have a lending library of books, materials and tools so that students may continue their artwork and study between classes.

What are the benefits of enrolling my child in an art school?

We can offer personalised tuition in a calm yet inspiring studio. We have a high ratio of experienced and knowledgeable tutors to students.

Are you a reputable after-school art program for young people?

We are highly regarded as a serious art school for young people. Founded in 1989, we have consistently grown and adapted to our students’ needs and now teach many children of our original students. Tuition is personalised, where students’ are encouraged to follow their own ideas, whilst still grounded in skills and art history.

Preparing For Your Art Classes

When to Arrive

Please arrive 5-10 minutes early for class to ensure we start on time. On Saturdays, please do not arrive earlier than this unless you have made prior arrangements, as tutors need time to clean up, write reports from the previous class, and take a short break. If you anticipate being late or need to contact me on the day of the class, please text Jo Acty at 07754 736078.

Access

The studio is located on the ground floor and is easily accessible, with both regular toilets and a disabled toilet available.

What to Bring

All materials are provided, so there is no need to bring anything unless you want to share your child's recent sketchbooks or specific artwork. For regular classes, we provide drinks along with cookies, doughnuts, and fruit halfway through. We check for nuts, but please inform us of any food allergies your child may have. For full-day workshops, students should bring a packed lunch and a drink.

What to Wear

Quality materials can leave tough stains! We provide aprons, but it’s best to send your child in old clothes just in case.

How to Take Artwork Home

We can store wet artwork and pieces in progress. If you need to pick up artwork on a different day than your child's class, please contact Jo Acty.

Cancellations

What happens if I need to cancel my place?

Please see below for ArtWorks cancellation policy on the different art class options:

Regular classes

Refunds are available up to 1 week before the start of the course / workshop, minus £50 (which counts as a non-refundable deposit) and a small administration fee.

Change of dates

We are able to offer a change of date of the Regular classes, no later than 1 week before the course is due to start.

Can’t make a session due to illness or holidays?

If you are unable to make a session during the term, we will try to give you an alternative date, but there must be at least 24hrs notice. As the regular classes are fortnightly please try to arrange other commitments around the art class as changing classes is disruptive and can cause over full groups which isn’t fair on the other students in the class who have kept to their proper week

Holiday Classes

We able to offer a refund or change of date of your class, if there are still places up to 1 week in advance of the class.

With less than 1 weeks notice I am unable to offer a refund or change of date.

Cancellations made by ArtWorks

If ArtWorks needs to cancel any event due to illness, a full refund or credit will be given.

If ArtWorks needs to cancel due to adverse weather conditions (e.g. heavy snow), we will attempt to reschedule the students affected or will offer a credit.
