Course content
Within the class the students will be able to explore a variety of media, backed by inspiring starting points and ideas. The ethos of the classes is to encourage confidence and individuality as well as lots of new skills and plenty of fun. The core of the classes is drawing and painting, with skills developed in looking.
Materials include:
Painting and drawing (water colour, gouache, oils, inks, brusho, graphite, charcoal and numerous other choices),
Printmaking, we have an etching/relief printing press, so lots of possibilities! We also offer lino, screen printing, mono printing, and collagraphs
Textiles Batik, felt making, silk painting, screen printing on fabric (we have canvas bags or bring along a tea shirt from home)
3d Wire, modroc, breezeblock, papier mache, wax, balsa, wet strength tissue, Sculpey, willow, scaled model making, plaster and numerous found materials). Plus, all sorts of other materials too many to list.
The group sizes are generally small rising to 12-16 at very maximum per class working with two - four specialist tutors.
As far as possible the classes are grouped in similar ages however sometimes students come with siblings, so it is difficult to guarantee, but as the teaching is individual, this doesn't affect the quality of the experience. (8-10yrs, 11-13yrs, 14yrs-16yrs).
REGULAR CLASSES
We also run weekly and fortnightly term time classes at Comper School on:
Fridays
(approx4-6pm) for 8-12yrs and 12-15yrs
Saturdays
10am-12noon - 8-11yrs and 12-16yrs
1-3pm - 12-18yrs
4-6pm - 8-11yrs and 12-18yrs
The classes are quite intensive, with attention to individual tuition and ample room for experimentation. The classes cost £25 per 2 hour session with the option of projects set for home (especially the fortnightly slots) and email support throughout the week.
Support with GCSE, A level, portfolios and scholarships
Our qualified teachers can support the GCSE and A-level syllabus. In the run up to exams, we can offer an open studio arrangement so students can stay for longer than their usual lesson to get their final exam preparation done.
We have a large Art and Art History lending library, and tutors an active interest in the History of Art and Contemporary Art
We can give essay advice via email in between lessons to GCSE and A-level students.
Arts Award
We guide students through the Bronze, Silver Arts, and Gold Awards - which are accredited Awards set up by the Arts Council and Trinity College.
You are welcome to visit and ask questions before committing to a term.
Parents are asked to pay Termly through Bookwhen and Paypal. As we are not subsidised in any way. The charges reflect our costs and the high ratio of tutors to students but there are a number of bursaries available for the regular classes, as we don't wish to exclude anyone. Payments are made online or with cash in a small number of cases. I’m afraid we do not accept cheques or childcare vouchers.
